First staged in 1973 by legendary choreographer Yury Grigorovich, this new version of The Sleeping Beauty, by Marius Petipa to the music by Tchaikovsky, is the first ballet performed on the newly reconstructed historical stage of the Bolshoi.
To make the fairytale come true, Yury Grigorovich and Italian set designer Ezio Frigerio work their fingers to the bone. As the curtain lifts, you find yourself literally in a 17th-century palace with rich decoration. Over 400 new costumes were specially tailored under the designs of Oscar-winning Franca Scuarcciapino, and will blind the most demanding public with glitter.
The production stars the world renown Svetlana Zakharova as Princess Aurora and David Hallberg as Prince Désiré.
