Nardus Williams & Elizabeth Kenny
An evening of song without a piano? This is what we can look forward to at soprano Nardus Williams’ debut at LIFE Victoria, in what promises to be one of the most interesting performances of the festival, accompanied by Elisabeth Kenny on the theorbo. Song in the form of madrigals composed by better-known figures such as Monteverdi or Caccini, and others who deserve to be rediscovered, such as Frescobaldi, Kapberger or Strozzi. This latter composer employed the art of song in a very modern way, placing herself – or at least her fictional persona – at the centre of her songs, just as most singers in the world of pop do today. This is how Elisabeth Kenny explains it in the Wigmore Hall programme, where they presented this programme just over a year ago. An evening of emotions before the Lied, which will allow us to see that these have not changed at all since the 16th century. Song before the Lied.
