Semiramis / Don Juan
Christoph Willibald Gluck, an innovator and dance enthusiast, worked throughout his life to transform ballet from mere entertainment into an expressive and autonomous art form. In 1761, in Vienna, his ballet Don Juan became the manifesto of ballet-pantomime and the first “ballet” in the modern sense of the term.
Edward Clug (Don Juan) and Ángel Rodríguez (Semiramis) reveal the eternal modernity of these two scores. This exceptional programme is conducted by the great master of early and Baroque music, Jordi Savall, who conducts his Le Concert des Nations.
