In this interview, Peter Sellars talks about the new libretto, characters and dramatisation he created for The Indian Queen, by Henry Purcell, which was uncompleted due to the early death of the composer in 1695, when he was just 36 years old.

Taking the novel La niña blanca y los pájaros sin pies (The White Girl and the Birds without Feet) by the Nicaraguan writer Rosario Aguilar as his starting point, Sellars gives a voice to the women who experienced the Conquest of America. He intersperses phrases from the book with Purcell’s hymns and songs and weaves them into the great English composer’s unfinished score for The Indian Queen.
