Georges Bizet’s fascinating masterpiece Carmen presents at the Teatro Real in Damiano Michieletto’s captivating production, which sheds new light on lust, violence and passion. Maestra Eun Sun Kim conducts a stellar cast led by the magnetic mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmethsina as Carmen, accompanied by the acclaimed Charles Castronovo as Don José, Adriana González as Micaëla, and Lucas Meachem as Escamillo.
Based on Prosper Mérimée’s famous novella, this intense drama set in Seville follows Carmen, a free-spirited gypsy with whom Don José, a corporal in the guard, falls madly in love. Blinded by jealousy and despair over the indomitable heroine, the soldier will unleash tragedy in an opera marked by great musical highlights such as the ‘Habanera’ and the ‘Seguidilla’.
