Giacomo Puccini’s majestic and legendary opera Turandot is presented from the Teatro Real in this fascinating visual production directed by the visionary Robert Wilson, which transports us to a dreamlike, ancient China where light, line and colour take centre stage. Conductor Nicola Luisotti leads the cast, headlined by Irene Théorin and Gregory Kunde.
This gripping lyrical drama is set in a mysterious Beijing, where the cold-hearted Princess Turandot challenges her suitors with three deadly riddles: solving them means winning her hand; failure means immediate execution. The story takes a thrilling turn when the brave Prince Calaf falls in love at first sight and accepts the deadly challenge, unleashing a spectacular musical duel in which love, passion and sacrifice will attempt to melt the heroine’s icy heart.
