Known as a creator of stunning images, stage director and visual artist Robert Wilson delivers a magnificent production of Mozart's adaptation of Handel's Messias. Gottfried van Swieten commissioned Mozart to modernize the score fifty years after Handel's popular composition (1742), mainly by arranging the wind parts and partially recomposing them. Marc Minkowski fully understands how to combine the baroque style with the tonal possibilities of a classical period orchestra such as the Musiciens du Louvre. The excellent solo quartet formed by Elena Tsallagova, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Richard Croft and José Coca Loza blends perfectly into Wilson's enormous wealth of images. “A complete work of art”, praises Opernglas; “stunningly beautiful” (BR Klassik); “A stellar moment for music” (orf.at); “Timeless beautiful” Süddeutsche Zeitung.
