World Opera Day

This Sunday, October 25, the second edition of World Opera Day is celebrated, a commemoration that seeks to promote the cultural value of this genre, pay tribute to creators and performers and highlight its importance as a sector of special relevance in the economy .

A weekend to celebrate
The initiative, created and promoted by the Teatro Real with the support of Ópera América, Ópera Latinoamérica and Opera Europa, has the backing of important institutions such as Opera Canada; Réunion des Opéras de France (France); Opera XXI (Spain); Opera & Music Theater Forum (United Kingdom); the International Theater Institute (ITI) and the National Centers for the Performing Arts in China and India.

We advance two days to the official date to offer open, from 20:00 today, Friday October 23, one of the great titles of the 18/19 season, Capriccio, the last opera by Richard Strauss, with musical direction by Asher Fisch. and a brilliant production conceived by Christof Loy, winner of the prize for the best Opera XXI Stage Direction.

On Saturday 24, also free of charge from 20:00, Aida, by Giuseppe Verdi, in the monumental production of Hugo de Ana under the baton of Nicola Luissotti, main guest musical director of the Teatro Real and Best Musical Director Award Opera XXI by Turandot at the Teatro Real.

On Sunday, in collaboration with Opera Vision, Opera Europa's audiovisual platform, it will be broadcast free of charge live from the five continents:
* At 13:00 from Moscow,
* At 16:00 pm from London, South African Golda Schultz and Italian Daniele Rustioni present Mozart sung by Elsa Dreisig and Beethoven by Luca Pisaroni, along with Massenet, Verdi and Nessun dorma by Puccini. Bernard Foccroulle's dream of global culture comes true with Indian raag, Russian soulfulness, Irish folk song, and a duet of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.
* At 20:00 p.m. from New York, presented by Lisette Oropesa and Lawrence Brownlee.
